Was Madeleine in NZ?

Have you all heard about the alleged spotting of Madeleine McCann in Dunedin on Dec 5th 2007? It's been all over the news & radio...

A Warehouse staff member called Taryn Dryfhout says she saw a man & a woman, with a little boy & girl with them and she couldn't believe how much the girl looked like Madeleine.

Apparently she approched them and spoke to the women and the girl who both had English accents. She has told interviewers:

"I was stricken by the wee girl who looked just like Madeleine McCann. She told me that her name was Hayley, and was quite apprehensive. She sort of stammered over her words when she was trying to think of her name. She was just very shy and afraid."

"I spoke to the woman only, not the man, and she seemed like she would rather I that I wasn't speaking to her. She sort of tried to keep ending the conversation. She was just in a little bit of a hurry to get out, I think."

There has even been a security camera picture that has been released from the day - It is quite blurry... But does kind of look like her... But looks like a LOT of young girls too!

Dunedin police have confirmed they did take the sighting seriously, and passed the information on to Interpol in Wellington who sent it to the Portuguese police. The Portuguese police never replied or followed it up as they thought it was not relevant apparently.

I remember when she went missing (from Portugal, on May 3 2007) it was so awful, But I have to admit I don't remember ever being left in a hotel room (or anywhere) alone when we were that young... Would she have been taken if an adult was in the hotel room? It was so heartbreaking when the parents said they wouldn't leave Portugal until she was found but then had to pack up & go back to England :(

Would the captors really take her out in public like that - The most searched for wee girl in the whole world is just casually walking around a Warehouse?? Or maybe they think NZ is so far away that no-one would know her...?

Why haven't the Dunedin family come forward if they are innocent - this has been all over the news, Someone would have told them...

Would anyone recognise Madeleine now? Her unusual eye would be the only thing you couldn't easily change...?
