Endometriosis
Endometriosis is derived from the words endo (inside) and metra (womb). It is a medical condition whereby endometrial cells are found outside the uterine cavity and commonly affects between 5 to 10% of women worldwide. As yet, there is neither a definite cause nor cure but there is a lot of information and support to help those who are affected by this condition.
Many women dismiss and categorise an undiagnosed case of endometriosis as bad cramps, irregular periods or a bad case of the blues but this is a condition that needs to be addressed in its earliest stages as severe, untreated endometriosis can result in permanent damage to a woman's reproductive system and worse, affect her ability to fall pregnant.
Whilst many women resist visiting their general practitioner or gynaecologist for fear of the unknown or concern regarding cost for consultation or treatment, we are fortunate to live in a democratic, health - savvy society where free sexual health care for youths or financial assistance is available through our government funded sexual health centres and local health practises.
We slynkey girls need to think of our body as our temple and do whatever we can to protect this temple! Often, people dedicate more time and energy into nurturing their exterior façade because this is something we are literally faced with every day. People also have a tendency to neglect their insides because they can't see them. This is quite ironic, as maintaining good health on the inside is paramount and will help ensure that our outsides are shining too!
Although there is no definitive cause or cure as yet for Endometriosis this condition is diagnosable, treatable with a laparoscopy and maintainable with The Pill or a Merina, which is similar to an IUD.
For free information on Endometriosis visit www.nzendo.co.nz . You can visit your local sexual health centre, doctor or gynaecologist if you are presenting symptoms indicative of Endometriosis. Your doctor will also be able to refer you to support groups in your region, nutritionists and homeopathic doctors who will be able to help you deal with and manage this condition.
