Girls will be girls

If you were the kind of girl who liked to raid her mother’s wardrobe and play dressup as a child, you’ll love the Celine Rita winter collection. Because Celine isn’t afraid to let girls dress like girls – in fact, she positively encourages it.

Fresh out of AUT, she launched her eponymous label in 2008 and has quickly gained a loyal following, and it’s not hard to see why!

With several collections behind her, Celine’s emerging design perspective is constantly developing. She says her Winter 2010 collection however, shows a more experimental edge.

Inspired by the Nutcracker, it features twisted rope detailing, lashings of lace and (my personal favourite) leopard-like heart prints.

Luxe fabrics are definitely one of the things that sets her garments apart; she delights in surprising wearers with silks, chiffons and other sumptuous materials. What’s more, the Auckland-based designer does all her own pattern-making and design, and is proud to say that every single one of her pieces is made in New Zealand.
