Perfect nails with essie!

'Tis the season to bare all!  Yes, girls, that includes your fingers too!  Perhaps you are like me, and kept your hands hidden away in mittens and gloves all winter long...  Time to ditch the winter woollies, summer is here, and it is time to get your fingernails ready for the world to see!

essie packs a nail-polish punch, with every colour under the sun available in gorgeous, easy-to-wear shades.  essie is a brand you can trust to deliver time and time again with chip-resistant, long lasting and easy to apply polishes.  So when a bottle of essie's 'Sold Out Show' arrived on my doorstep I embarked on my own DIY manicure to test-drive this gorgeous bottle of polish!

Here is my step-by-step guide to the perfect DIY manicure with essie:

Clean Base: Begin by removing old colour with a nail polish remover so you have a clean, fresh base to build on.

File Away:  Trim, cut and file your nails to your desired length and shape.  Two popular options when it comes to shape are square or rounded.  I prefer the look of square, but this is a personal choice, one is not better than the other.

Soak:  Take a bowl of warm water, add two tablespoons of olive oil or a favourite bath powder and soak you hands for five minutes.  This will soften your cuticles and nails making them easier to work with.

Nourish:  Using a clean towel thoroughly dry hands and nails.  Apply cuticle oil, olive oil, or hand and nail lotion to nourish, and soften your hands. Spend time rubbing thoroughly into your cuticles.

Cuticle Care:  Using a cuticle stick, or an iceblock stick gently press cuticles back so they do not get in the way of the polish.  It is easier to avoid cutting your own cuticles and leave it to the professionals - pushing the cuticles back keeps the process quick, easy and pain-free.

Now you are ready for essie!  Begin with a base coat first to protect your nails, keeping them strong, and allowing easier application of your chosen colour.

Once your bases are covered, apply two thin coats of polish.  My tip is unscrew the polish lid, lift your wand out of the bottle and drag one side of your wand against the neck of the bottle to discard excess product.

Then run the polish wand product side downwards against the middle of the nail, allowing the excess polish to drip along either sides of your nail.  This results in less overflow of product onto the skin surrounding your nail, and a more professional finish.

Allow the first coat to dry, and then repeat the process to get a stronger, brighter and more beautiful colour.  Finish with a clear top coat to keep everything looking fresh, and gorgeous!

Voilà, beautiful nails à la essie!
