Deschlers

Deschlers has earnt itself the glory of being a considered a golden oldie. With so many bars rising as an 'it bar' only to slowly fade again, it's these staple bars that guarantee a good time.

Having established itself as one of Auckland's best music and cocktail bars, Deschlers proves it's still got what it takes. You'll find it on High Street, close enough to be near everything in town, but nicely out of the spotlight. And it's after a dinner out that we find ourselves heading for its doors.

It's dark and secluded, backlit in a fiery red, with plenty of booths to tuck up in. It's this hazy atmosphere that really stands out, as well as it's unpretentious attitude.

With cocktails on our mind we aren't disappointed with the selection on offer. I have the 'Blackberry Crumble' while Stuart has the 'Lush Kiss'. Exotic names for great cocktails.



The service is prompt as to be expected when it is relatively quiet but the barman is skilled at what he does. Anyone who works here has to be with such an extensive cocktail list.

While we haven't shown up on a night with live music, you can be sure of some amazing live jazz twice a week and the lure of some of Auckland's best DJ's. On our Monday night however we were treated to some live big screen Guitar Hero instead, very entertaining.

So no, Deschlers has not lost any of its charm, remaining a long standing big player. And with those mind blowing cocktails, why wouldn't it be?
